Toxic Free Friday’s Sunscreen Special
Sorry it’s so long!!! It’s a complicated subject! Disclaimer: I am not suggesting you purchase the same sunscreens as I am, I’m just letting you know what we decided to go with. What may work for one person’s skin, my not work for another. Please use my suggestions as guidelines. I’m not an expert on sunscreens, nor am I a medical professional. ewg.org’s website dedicated to sunscreens: breakingnews.ewg.org sunscreen reviews of all “healthy” sunscreens: www.kitchenstewardship.com Check out www.ewg.org/skindeep for more information on ingredients to avoid. @juliet1178 Good to know about the Badger! See… what works for some (I read some good reviews on it) might not work for others, and therein lies the problem with suggesting one choice. Even the lady that tried everything didn’t suggest just one. I just received Beyond Coastal from Amazon. I believe it is an old bottle. It smells odd & the ingredients are different from Beyond Coastal’s website. (They recently reformulated it) I called BC, and they are replacing it. I will keep you posted!
@juliet1178 You are so welcome! I hope they help you!
Thanks for this video. I really need to start paying more attention to what’s in my cosmetics (or anything I put on or in my body). In the past I’d go for the cheapest option w/ the SPF I wanted, and choose the formula I liked (oil vs. lotion vs. spray). Ideally what I want now is a non-toxic lotion that smells good (so I’ll want to wear it). I’ll look forward to your review of Beyond Coastal and any others your family tries. Thanks again!
Great video! This was very informative. Thank you for taking the time to gather all this information.
@TheCozyFamily I am right there with you – I did the same for many, many years. We can’t undo what we have done, but we can move on with new choices.
I will let you know how it all goes in FL with the new choices we have made. Thanks for watching!
@FlorencesMommy Thank you so much! I’m so glad I was able to help. You are so welcome; I was happy to do it. We should all treat ourselves better when it comes to skin care, I think!!
Wow thank you for taking the time to do this! I’m definetly going to look into it some more. I also look forward to your review on beyond coastal. I wish this was easier!
@allharr You are welcome! It’s a really complicated subject, for sure. I will keep you all posted on Beyond Coastal!
Thank you so much, so helpful!! I used Badger Baby this past summer, not sure where it fits with the toxins, and unfortunately it was not vegan (beeswax).
Thanks for tackling this! I hadn’t heard of Beyond Coastal, so I’ll look into it & be interested to hear how you like it.
@zkt8ef Good! I’m glad it was helpful for you. I checked Badger, and it looks pretty good as far as toxins go… There is beeswax in Episencial, but not in Alba Botanica’s Kids or Beyond Coastal.. so you might want to check those out….
@katulka2 Thank you for asking me to do this video! Although it was an undertaking and half, I really learned a lot. And that is never a bad thing! I just received Beyond Coastal from Amazon. I believe it is an old bottle. It smells odd & the ingredients are different from Beyond Coastal’s website. (They recently reformulated it) I called BC, and they are sending out a replacement right away, so I like them already.
It did rub in quite nicely, regardless of that. I will keep you posted!
My son is very allergic to sunflower seeds/oil, and MANY of the low scoring sunscreens contain it – several you mentioned. I have tried 4 on my son. I like Burn Out & California Baby. BO is more watery and absorbs/rubs in quickly, but it wont rub in after it dries, so it can leave streaks on his face but is great for his body. CB is thicker but not greasy and takes longer to sink in, but will rub in if I notice a spot – good for face. Badger -VERY greasy, and Alba clumped up.
@nolita505 OMG – you have another limitation on what you can use! Good to know about Badger – someone else said that it didn’t protect from their child from the sun. All prime examples of why I don’t suggest one sunscreen over another. It’s so personal!
I read about Burn Out – but heard some bad reviews. You might want to try Beyond Coastal (the price is better than CA Baby)…. They don’t have sunflower seed/oil in their natural line. I will see if Alba does the clumps on Leila.
I spent a while doing my own research for my eczema prone son last spring, and thank you for this overview. The EWG website make is so much easier. For my own use, I’ve been spoiled by the chemical ones, before I knew about the harm, and haven’t found a safe one for myself yet. Very interesting to learn about avobenzone and Beyond Coastal and Ecological.
@nolita505 With eczema and allergies – I can understand the need full on research, for sure!! EWG makes everything a smidge easier – but there is still a lot out there, I’m sure!
I would head to Beyond Coastal’s website – they have all the ingredients listed..something I really appreciate. Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it. I hope you find something for your self soon! I will let you know what I think of Beyond Coastal as soon as I get back!
this was really helpful!! I’ve really been putting off researching all of my products, but Ive been really worried about our sunscreens! It’s all scary, but sunscreens seem extra scary!
@jessicaking10 Well – I’m glad I could help!! I really appreciate your support, and I hope you find something that works for your family… Let me know if you have any questions!!
I am in Utah and use Beyond Coastal. I prefer the SPF 15 over the 30 because its thinner and rubs in super easy. They are way cheaper for the level of quality compared to similar brands… great stuff! Just remember to reapply after a few hours, it won’t last all day!
@ls367 Good to know! I have two bottles of it here waiting to go to FL with us. I’m not THRILLED about the smell, but what can you do? I will be sure to reapply! Thanks for the advice!
Heading to Puerto Rico for Christmas. Baby is taken care of – received some California Baby Sunscreen for shower. Just ordered some Beyond Coastal for me!
and their is also the problem of nanoparticules in liquid natural sunscreen………..
@Arobinsc How did it work out for you??
@megandleila It was just fine! No burns and we were out walking around much of the day. You’re right about the “scent” though. The baby one was fine but the adult one, a tad stinky. Hope your new year is going smoothly! Good vacation, but glad to be home too.
@Arobinsc That’s great!!! Yeah, the smell isn’t very good…. Glad you had a nice vacation!!
