Tanning bed red hair pale light fair skin. Tan, burn??
Hey people, I do not want to know the harmful effects of UV rays on my fair skin. I know I am going to die of lung cancer before skin cancer. With all that aside..
I have natural red hair, and light skin. Not the TYPICAL FRECKLY PALE RED-HEAD. I dont have THAT many freckles and I am half italian. I usually get burned when I am out in the sun but it takes about an hour. I have had plenty of bad burns in my life and it sucks. But also, I do not wear sunscreen. Its stupid I know but I usually dont try to get a tan nor prevent my burn. I just goto the beach bare. I want to start tanning soon for many reasons and I want to know the best way for me to tan. How gradual? How often per session for how many sessions? How many weeks until I start to tan? All answers would be great! Also, do I wear sunscreen when I go there or will they give me some? Do you wear a light SPF in the boothe? Also, do I mix lotion with tanning oil??
Thank you….

I’m really fair too, so when I start tanning I go gradually. It depends on the type of tanning bed you’re using. If the max is 20 minutes, start out at 6 or 7 min the first time. If it’s a stronger stand up that the max is only 9 or 10 minutes, start at 5. After you go the first time see how you feel (pink, itchy). Go every other day or every 3rd day and increase the time gradually. It might take a few weeks to really see a good tan starting, but it’s worth it to start slow so you don’t burn. Buy yourself a tanning lotion that they sell at the tanning salon. Some are expensive, but they really do work to help you tan faster. Ask them to recommend one to you.
Tan, then burn, then the inevitable skin cancer. Why do you need a tan? It doesn’t make you any more attractive. I find fake tanned guys disgusting looking…
I hate tanning beds!1. you will get burned
2.skin cancer
3.you become similar to a roast chicken! Great!!!!!
I would ask the people who work at the tanning parlor. However, I would also suggest that you reconsider- it’s only my opinion, but I think people look best when they tan naturally- only a little color over their natural skin tone, or none. I don’t think I have ever seen a tan redhead, and I have seen dyed red-heads with tans, and the color combination was not flattering. The other thing to consider is how very much earlier and more severely you will wrinkle/age your skin. My sister is Caucasian with brown eyes and light brown hair. I am more fair with green eyes/blond hair. She tanned for years in booths and on the beach in her teens/early 20s. I am 32 and she is 31. I have always worn sunblock since my early 20s, getting a little color but not a deep tan. She looks *much* older than me with many wrinkles/creases around her eyes/forehead. Needless to say, she regrets this. So if you are tanning for vanity, consider the wrinkles
Every salon has different beds with different wattage and bulbs.
There are "regular" bulbs and there are "bronzing bulbs". The regular bulbs give you a deeper longer lasting tan (the UV rays go through 3 layers of your skin. The bronzing bulbs go through just the 1st layer so you get darker faster, but then it fades faster. (The sun goes through all 7 layers).
Different beds do different things. My favorite is the "stand up". Where you stand for no more than 12 minutes (usually) and tan. It gives you an all around even tan. Where as the beds sometimes leave lines… But the "lay down bed" are good too!
But like I said… the salon staff knows (should know! sometimes they are just ditsy girls that know nothing at all) all about what beds they have.
You should start slow (like 3 minutes if it is a high wattage bed, and 4 minutes if it is a high wattage bed… yes even 1 minute makes a BIG difference.) You do not want to burn… if you burn the staff won’t let you back for a week (usually) and burning leads to skin damage… and it hurts… and we don’t want that. ;0) You should go every other day to start out with… increasing 1 minute (only if you didn’t get pink the last time) per session… After 2 weeks you could end up going everyday till you achieve you desired color. I would recommend leavings some area (even a small ring on a finger) covered while you tan so you can see your progress.
I would go on eBay and buy your tanning lotion there (it will save you mega $$$) Any lotion by Designer Skin or California Tan will do you good (just stay away from any lotion that says "hot" or "warming" or "tingle"… unless you like pain and itchiness) My favorite lotions is called ‘Halo’ it has an SPF 4 and it is a UVB inhibiter (good for bronzing beds). Lotions you pick up at local drug stores usually have a sugar base and dry out your skin… and the salon staff won’t let you use it in the beds (it cracks the acrylic). Avoid using sunscreen in the beds… that sort of makes tanning pointless and it is bad for the beds (which cost an average of $13,000).
Finding a good salon is hard… It should be clean and the staff shouldn’t seem rushed. You need them to give you honest answers to the questions you have… and don’t be afraid to ask even the stupidest of questions… Your safety is #1. The beds should be clean and well kept (no duct tape holding bulbs in place). The staff MUST clean the beds between each user (koodies are so not hot!)
hope this helped! Happy Tanning!

lots of good info on tanning indoors vs. outdoors ;0)
Each salon bed is different. Try to sue the ones that you stand up in that way your not laying on pressure points of the bed. Healthy skin is hard to maintain so dont be harsh on your skin.
Stay in there for about 10 minuits on your first session. Maybe try a 20 minute session on your second time. The first time if your tan develops you will look like youve got lines going down you due to the bulbs they use. Another session will clear that up so dont worry. They will give you creams, lotions to suit the tan that you wish to achive.
Each bed is different in each salon depending where and how they are made. The best thing to do is ask workers in the salon for advise, which they will give to you anyway before you use the bed, but ask for more if you feel at all uncomfortable.
Some people are just TAN-ARREXIC. You might be one of them, to much tan is eww ! Do you want to look like a brown leather handbag when your older. A slight tan is ok, but just use illuminating creams ony uor own skin if it doesnt work, like i said some people just dont tan.
But Good Luck Anyways x
I actually work at a Hollywood Tans and what we usually do with clients is start them out at the basic time depending on what booth you may use. Then we just gradually have you move up or you can stay at however many minutes you would like. Our booths work very well. I used to not be able to tan unless I got burnt. Well right now I have a pretty good tan and thats from just this week! Using lotion does help too, even if its just a normal moisturizer. If your skin is moisturized it’s more prone to tanning faster! Hope this helps!
