I got my hair "glazed" black a few days ago, glaze is like dying your hair but it only stays for a month or so. I realized that it makes me look weird, so I decided to go back to my natural dirty blonde colour, but I don’t want to use dyes or glazes because it damages hair when used too often. I found these hair lightening methods on line and I was wondering if theyd work on dark colour treated hair

I also have this product called Sun In, which you spray in your hair and the sun’s uv rays help lighten your hair, but idk if it works on dark hair

And my eye brows are dark, almost black. Would it look weird with dirty blonde hair?

How to get a tan for burn-prone skin!?

I have sensitive, pale skin. I really want to be able to get a natural sun tan but I don’t know how! I don’t want to go tanning, or get a spray tan, or use tanning lotion because 1.) UV rays make you age, 2.) Spray tans last a week and are costly and make you orange, 3.) Tanning lotion turns your skin blotchy and orange around the elbows and knees! Is there anything I can use to attract sun to my skin without burning it? I have heard of vegetable oil but I’m not sure if it works. Please help me!

Hello. i was just wondering if anyone knows about natural sunscreens.
Ive been reading online about how Sesame oil supposedly resists 30 percent of UV rays, while some some other oils like coconut oil, soybean oil, peanut oil, olive oil, and avocado etc block out like 20 percent. I’m wondering if this is really true, cause as far as i’m concerned, people often apply oils (especially olive) when they are trying to tan faster…like they are used as a tanning oil…so how can be sunscreens? Are the people that apply oils to tan more just trippin? Or are the people who put on oil as sunscreen trippin?

I am looking for a natural substance i can use as a sunscreen since i have completely stopped my use of sunscreens & have almost completely stopped putting on makeup during the day.
I live in Cali & try to get out every day when there’s sun for a few hours if i can, & even tho i believe that the sun a necessity for life, i do believe that overexposure could be damaging, so i’d like to find something to put on my face & shoulders (which get the most sun) that will provide as much UV protection as possible as well as not clog my pores & cause skin problems….

So is sesame oil effective, is it okay to use on the face?

Does it make sense that oils would provide UV protection? I dont want to be doing one thing to protect myself but rather be harming myself even more… I mean, by the shininess of oil it does makes sense that it woulds shield rays but i still have a doubt b/c of the whole "tanning oil" deal.

Thank you a bunch for any advice :)

Hope you all get your vitamin D

Is this true or just stupid?

A couple of days ago, I heard two girls arguing about tanning in a bed vs. natural tanning. The first girl said that tanning in a bed was worse than natural tanning, but the other girl who is a bit of a know it all refuted back saying that tanning in a bed is better because "it is concentrated so you know your limits" and natural tanning is worse because "it’s not concentrated so you do it more" or something to that matter.

I thought that tanning in a bed was worse because the UV rays are stronger? And concentrated is actually worse?

Who is right?

Why is that black women age so gracefully.?

I mean I know It’s because they have thicker tighter skin and more melanin, which protects against UV rays that cause premature aging.

But I been noticing they really start aging around 60. White women age very fast. Without the makeup it’s even worse.

Same thing with Asians. Most age slow for the natural resources they use and the food they eat.

LMAO I’m amazed on how many black women I talk to at UMD. Who look like there early 20’s but there actually in there 40’s.

Is there a crunchy divide?

I’m pretty crunchy. I do the whole reduce, reuse, recycle thing, sometimes to greater extremes than "normal" people would. And sometimes I’ll reject standard medical advice, if I don’t think it’s sensible. For example, I generally don’t wear sunscreen. Sunburn is a protective mechanism of the human body, and by blocking the UV rays that cause sunburn, but not the UV rays that cause cancer, I’m not doing myself any favors.

So a lot of the people I talk to are crunchy, too. But sometimes I feel like we’re on completely different wavelengths.

For example, I had the following conversation with a crunchy coworker (who I love, but regardless):

Me: "I think I need to go to the doctor and get antibiotics. My cat bite is swelling up and looks infected."

Her: "You should put turmeric on it."

Me: "Uh, turmeric? Like the spice?"

Her: "Oh yes, [Indian coworker] told me about it. I put it on my cat bite, and my whole arm ended up streaking and swelling, but it went away after a couple of weeks."

Me: "Uhhh…okay."

It’s just like there’s this huge dividing line. She continued to put turmeric on her bite, even though she had a massive infection, because it was natural. And while I don’t use sunscreen, I’m not sitting out in the sun burning my skin off because the sun is natural. I go inside when I’ve had too much sun, like a sensible person. I mean, if my arm was streaking and swollen, I would’ve gone to the emergency room, not the grocery store.

Now I don’t go tanning, but I do tan very easily in the sun. I have burned before and I’ve heard from salon owners that burning is what causes cancer – tanning is only natural protection from UV rays or something.

Is this true? It certainly seems true, people don’t die from a tan, they die when their skin is damaged. How did black people come to be if tanning isn’t natural (now don’t make fun of me becasue I don’t know the answer lol, I’m not an evolutionary expert)?

Help with tanning???

I cant tan!
Its physically impossible for me!!!

I have a very pink colour to my skin naturally, and when ever i try to tan i either go pink or burn.

Im originally from chicago, but i lived in London untill i was 8 and a half and now i live in New Zealand where the UV rays are deathly high..

Does anybody know why i cant tann..
Any tips for tanning (naturall tanning, no sprays or tanning salons please… just natural tanning on the beach :)

thank you

Hi. I use diluted lemon juice on my hair to make it a light blonde color when I’m out in the sun. I know lemon juice dries out hair, but I want to boost the blonde streaks that I get naturally in the summer and lemon juice is cheap and effective.

However, it does dry out hair so I try to combat that when I can by using a homemade deep conditioner like egg yolks on it. This takes too much time to do often, though, so I need something easy that I can just spray in my hair and forget about.

Natural is preferred, but it can’t have any hair "sunscreen" type stuff that will block UV rays, because I need those to turn my hair blonder. Haha, this is a weird question and I probably sound crazy for drying my hair out and then trying to moisturize it.

But if you have any suggestions, please tell me! Thanks everyone! :]
